Start Here Founder, Christopher ShultzWhen Christopher Schultz was in college, his mother, executive director of an arts-in-education nonprofit, lost her development director and asked Chris to help. As de facto development director for two months between his freshman and sophomore years, Chris raised nearly $300,000, about ten times the organization’s prior annual budget.

After graduating from Duke, Chris spent four years as a logistics officer in the Navy, learning the ins and outs of government contracts. He lived in New York after the Navy, where he made his living as a writer and editor. In 2002 he moved to Oxford, Miss., where he co-founded Easy Laundry, a laundry and dry-cleaning delivery service. Chris founded Start Here in 2004 after preparing a successful government contract bid worth more than $10 million.
